Hunger Action Month
Why This Matters Now
According to the latest Map the Meal Gap data:
1 in 7 adults and 1 in 6 children in our region face food insecurity
Over 60% of those in need don’t qualify for federal food assistance
Food banks like ours can’t fill the gap alone
Meet the Kitchen That Feeds KC
At the heart of this campaign is a vibrant, powerful place:
Nourish KC Community Kitchen.
This is more than a place to eat.
It’s a training ground for future chefs.
A stable force in the lives of those experiencing housing and food insecurity.
And a model of what community-powered food justice can look like.
Your donation keeps this kitchen open.
Let’s Keep Us Cooking
A Hunger Action Month Campaign to Protect Meals & Jobs in Kansas City
May 26 – June 30, 2025
Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Break
While many are planning cookouts and summer vacations, thousands of our neighbors are struggling to access just one hot meal. Right now, Kansas City’s food insecurity rate is at a ten-year high—and the kitchen so many rely on is in crisis.
At The Prospect KC, we serve 500+ hot, nutritious meals every weekday through our Nourish KC Community Kitchen. For many, this is the only meal they’ll eat all day.
But due to federal food program cuts and delays in grant funding, we’re facing the real possibility of reducing meal service—just when it’s needed most.
